Sheldon Lake State Park & Environmental Learning Center

Just 15 minutes from downtown Houston is an oasis of ponds, wetlands, woods and prairie. Families love exploring this park, where you can fish, hike, paddle and nature watch atop the observation tower. Another reason it tops many visitors’ favorite park list: it’s free! Plus, all facilities and trails are ADA accessible.

Throughout 2023, we are raising money for much-needed projects at all Texas State Parks. Give back today and help us grant Sheldon Lake State Park’s centennial wish.

Sheldon Lake State Park & Environmental Learning Center’s Centennial Wish:

See for Miles and Miles

The 82-foot John Jacob Observation Tower at Sheldon Lake State Park provides visitors with a rare opportunity to see incredible unobstructed panoramic views of the surrounding restored prairies, wetlands and reservoir, and even the downtown Houston skyline and the San Jacinto Monument.

With your help, park staff will enhance the experience by adding a dual-mounted viewing scope, which will allow all visitors increased viewing ability. This viewer will meet ADA height requirements for wheelchairs and also be at a great height for children.

Fundraising goal: $9,000

Give Back to Sheldon Lake State Park & Environmental Learning Center
