Lost Maples State Natural Area

Many park goers love Lost Maples for its fall color, but year-round you can enjoy abundant wildflowers, steep canyon walls and the scenic Sabinal River. Just two hours northwest of San Antonio, you can take a hike or a photo, go fishing, look for birds and other wildlife, camp, backpack, stargaze and more!

Throughout 2023, we are raising money for much-needed projects at all Texas State Parks. Give back today and help us grant Lost Maples State Natural Area’s centennial wish.

Lost Maples State Natural Area’s Centennial Wish:

Enhancing the Visitor Experience

Visitors to Lost Maples come each fall to see the canyons light up with color. The park’s remote location also makes for great dark sky viewing.  To celebrate the Texas State Park Centennial, the park wants to enrich the visitor experience with some new equipment and programming.

The following items are on the park’s wish list:

  • Two viewing scopes with color-correcting lenses. These scopes will allow colorblind visitors to enjoy the leaf show, and the scopes can be seamlessly used by others, too.
  • Astronomy binoculars to enhance astronomy programs offered at the park.
  • A geology resource trunk to allow the park to offer programming related to the geology of the park, which sits on the Edwards Plateau.

With your help, the visitor experience at Lost Maples will be enhanced for all.

Fundraising goal: $6,000
