Hill Country State Natural Area

A park favorite among equestrian and outdoor enthusiasts, you can explore over 5,000 acres of rugged canyons, scenic plateaus and tranquil creek bottoms at this former ranch northwest of San Antonio. The area is a haven for primitive camping, backpacking, nature-watching and trail-blazing.

Throughout 2023, we are raising money for much-needed projects at all Texas State Parks. Give back today and help us grant Hill Country State Natural Area’s centennial wish.

Hill Country State Natural Area’s Centennial Wish:

H2O for Horses

Hill Country SNA is a beloved destination for equestrian enthusiasts, as well as hikers, mountain bikers, and wildlife viewers. About 35 percent of visitors arrive with a horse in tow, ready to explore over 40 miles of rugged trails.

Local guide services also bring in equestrian users, making the activity accessible to visitors of all skill levels.

With your help, park staff will install water troughs in four areas of the park. These concrete troughs, installed and plumbed from existing water lines by staff, will primarily serve thirsty horses—though they may also increase wildlife viewing opportunities as animals are often drawn to reliable water sources.

Fundraising goal: $12,000
