Fort Leaton State Historic Site
Once a pioneer trading post, this 1848 adobe fortress serves as the western entrance to Big Bend Ranch State Park. Here visitors enjoy the museum programs, reenactments, tours and annual events, all of which provide unique insight into Fort Leaton’s place in Texas history.
Throughout 2023, we are raising money for exciting projects at all Texas State Parks. Give back today and help us grant Fort Leaton State Historic Site’s centennial wish.
Fort Leaton State Historic Site’s Centennial Wish:
Providing Access for All
Historic Fort Leaton and its surroundings have many uneven surfaces and obstacles that limit standard wheelchair use, which prevents some visitors from fully experiencing the site.
To enhance the visitor experience for those with mobility issues, park staff would like to purchase two all-terrain wheelchairs that visitors can use for free. One will be self-propelled and one will be motorized.
With your help, Fort Leaton and its unique history will be accessible to all.
Fundraising goal: $21,000
Once the initial priority project has been funded, any dollars raised beyond the needs of the park’s priority project will remain with Fort Leaton State Historic Site for future funding needs.
