Balmorhea State Park

For almost 80 years, park goers have flocked to this cool oasis in the high desert—home to the world’s largest spring-fed swimming pool, you can swim among native turtles and fish, explore restored cieñegas for glimpses of endangered fish and wildlife, or simply relax under the trees.

Throughout 2023, we are raising money for much-needed projects at all Texas State Parks. Give back today and help us grant Balmorhea State Park’s centennial wish.

Balmorhea State Park’s Centennial Wish:

Shade on a Hot Summer Day

Balmorhea State Park is called an “oasis in the desert,” partly due to the large shade trees surrounding the pool and canals. Park visitors have been cooling off here for decades.

However, many of the trees originally planted by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the late 1930s have died or are in decline as they reach the end of their life cycle.

Visitors have responded positively to recent tree plantings by park staff and have expressed hopes that additional trees be planted to provide shade for future generations of visitors.

With your help, park staff will purchase and plant 15-gallon-sized shade trees in the pool and day-use areas of the park and will also extend the irrigation system to supply water for the newly planted trees.

Fundraising goal: $40,000
